I haven't written anything since April ??????
OK, so Survivor totally sucks this season.....Russell and Parvati are completely running the show which is completely ruining the show!!
We had our book club on the 22nd and it was was at Shellie Hansens "beautiful" home! Just to refresh....we read The Help for April and it was AWESOME!!! This book is definitely on my to buy list!!!! I started it the Friday after our last book club and finished on Saturday. Couldn't put it down. (it also helped that Dylan was gone to a track meet all day) The book takes place in Mississippi in the 60's and the black ladies that are the help(maid, nanny, server, basically anything they want them to be) to the white ladies. It's funny, disturbing, insightful and to me the ending made the book. We had some great conversations. Not too many different opinions...just very profound opinions. It seemed like the book affected everyone in looking at ourselves as to how we treat people in our lives. I was raised w/ the opinion of different races not even being an issue so one thing I got out of the book was how the 60's were not THAT long ago and I didn't realize people were still being treated in that way. I have known that Martin Luther King was a very important figure and reading this book just made me realize how much the black communities needed someone like him or Rosa Parks or anyone else that helped with the movements in those days.
So on to more of the night...Shellie made a caramel cake which was in the book. It was suggested that she make a chocolate pie but she thought it would offend. (you have to read the book to understand that part) haha!! So next month we're reading The Guernsey Literary and Potatoe Peel Pie Society. I read this one over a year ago and loved it so I'm excited to read it again. I loaned my copy out so I hope I get a chance to read it before the next meeting.
Ok, so......lets get onto some movies I've seen. I've been having a marathon of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. As of today...I'm on season 4 w/only 2 episodes to go. I found it on my Netflix as an instant play (all 7 seasons) and its been fun. A little corney at times but hey!!! it's vampire stuff. ps ......from watching this I kinda wonder if Stephenie Meyer loved this show cause there are a couple of moments that reminded so much of Twilight. Which is funny cause I hate it when I read or see something and you just know they got that idea from her books so it's different to see a vampire series that was made long before she wrote her 1st book!!!
Another movie I want to talk about is a must have. Dont have it yet....but I have a promise to myself that I will very very soon. It's Young Victoria. So good!!! I first learned about this movie back in October and wanted to see it so bad when it came out in December to the theater but of course Roger decided not to bring it to Ephrata. To his credit...it didnt go to Moses either, but I like to blame everything like that on him. Emily Blunt is Queen Victoria and does such a great job. Rupert Friend is Prince Albert and does an equally amazing job. I cant wait to have this movie in my possession because I wanted to see it again as soon as I finished.
I also watched a few other movies....The Easter bunny brought Dylan the Blind Side which was really really good!! I watched Love Happens w/Jennifer Aniston and actually didnt finish it cause it was so boring and also a Rupert Everett movie, The Ideal Husband. I love Rupert alot but this particular movie was just ok. I did add it back onto my Netflix so I can try it again at a later time. I do have Whip It that's waiting to be watched. More on that one later.
So, I'll continue w/my Buffy marathon which has lead to the spin off of Angel that is about 4 seasons, which lead to the Bones seasons. All of these are on Netflix so I guess I'll be getting good use of my account in the weeks to come.
